Quick Take
- $LEAF supports staking, progression, and emissions across a live roguelite with 500K+ players
- 78% of the total supply goes to the community through gameplay and contributor rewards
- Custom blockchain sync enables NFT traits to affect gameplay outcomes in real time
The Backwoods, a Solana-based roguelite developed by Seed Labs, has formally introduced $LEAF as the core token powering its ecosystem. With over 500,000 players and 30 gameplay patches shipped since launch, the project is positioning $LEAF as a reward layer and the foundation of a mobile-first, onchain gaming platform.
The announcement follows the ongoing LEAF Season, a multi-week campaign featuring an airdrop, leaderboard progression, and new gameplay features. Players can earn $LEAF through in-game actions, quests, and community events tracked via a dedicated hub at app.backwoods.gg.
According to the developers, $LEAF will drive all major systems inside The Backwoods: play-to-earn loops, contributor incentives, NFT staking, and future marketplace utilities. A custom-built onchain integration system ensures gameplay directly reflects blockchain activity, syncing character traits, social actions, and leaderboard results to wallet-linked progression.
Unlike typical token launches, $LEAF’s distribution model is built around its ecosystem. Only 1% of the total supply is reserved for the team, with 78% allocated to the community through four categories:
- 33% for in-game emissions
- 33% for community rewards
- 12% for staking and loyalty incentives
- 10% for the ecosystem fund
Revenue generated from in-game purchases will be split evenly between $LEAF buybacks and ongoing development. This flywheel is designed to reinforce token value without speculative inflation.
NFTs within The Backwoods already impact gameplay. Hero characters have traits that influence roguelite runs, while ownership offers bonus multipliers for rewards. During LEAF Season, players can hatch pets from collectible eggs, access new map routes, and loot chests without key requirements tied to evolving token mechanics.
At the time of writing, Hero NFTs were trading around 0.53 SOL ($76), with staking options available for additional reward access.
More updates are expected as LEAF Season continues through July. See the full breakdown from The Backwoods directly on X.
