Spider Tanks Makes a Full Comeback
Spider Tanks, one of Web3’s earliest competitive multiplayer games, is officially back. Immutable and Dutch developer GAMEDIA have relaunched the title as Spider Tanks: Cores of Chaos, now available on the Epic Games Store, Apple App Store, and Google Play.
The announcement in early November confirmed months of speculation surrounding the franchise’s revival. GAMEDIA has spent the past year rebuilding the game from the ground up on Immutable’s next-generation infrastructure, representing a new era for the project after regaining ownership of the IP in 2024.
Robbie Ferguson, Co-Founder and President at Immutable, said the partnership existed to let GAMEDIA “realize their full creative vision without compromise.” GAMEDIA CEO Dittmar Tukker added that reviving the game was about proving that Web3 games “should be about fun first.”
A Faster, Cleaner, Free-to-Play Evolution
Spider Tanks: Cores of Chaos keeps the core 3v3 arena formula that made the original a cult hit, but nearly every system has been rewritten.
The reboot focuses on:
- More versatile moment-to-moment gameplay
- Deeper tank customization
- A refined progression system
- Smoother controls, sharper visuals, and improved performance
Players build their tanks by mixing Bodies, Weapons, and up to two Special Items. Bodies define stats like speed and health, while weapons range from railguns to flamethrowers. Tactical abilities such as shields, turrets, cloaking, decoys, and drones open up team strategies.
The game also launches with multiple PvP modes including Team Deathmatch, Hold the Flag, Chicken Chaser, and payload-style Poultry Pusher. Occasionally, battles are interrupted by Destroyers, giant military tanks that force temporary alliances between rival teams.
Cores of Chaos removes onboarding friction entirely. No tokens required, no asset purchases, no complicated sign-ups. Every feature can be unlocked through play, and matchmaking is fully cross-platform across PC, Mac and mobile devices through iOS and Android.
A Revival Years in the Making
Spider Tanks originally launched in 2021 under a partnership between GAMEDIA and Gala Games, becoming one of the earliest examples of an esports-oriented Web3 title. The collaboration eventually broke down, leading to a 2024 legal dispute where Gala attempted to claim ownership of the IP. A California court dismissed the claim, leaving GAMEDIA in full control.
In September 2025, Immutable and GAMEDIA announced a new partnership strongly hinting that Spider Tanks was returning. The relaunch now validates months of speculation and marks GAMEDIA’s first standalone Web3 title under their sole ownership.
The game joins Immutable’s expanding publishing slate alongside Ubisoft’s Might & Magic reboot and Habbo X, signaling continued investment in multiplayer Web3 experiences.
