The first-ever 3XP Web3 Gaming Expo, an event organized by Community Gaming, was held on June 8-9 in Pasadena, California. The event centered around gameplay and drew developers, thought leaders, investors, and content creators involved in the web3 gaming space.
Web3 Games Exhibition and Main Stage Insights
A focal point of the event was the main stage, provided by Game7. Over 100 speakers gave presentations on the topic of web3 gaming. In addition to supplying the main stage, Game7 was one of the event’s top sponsors and one of the exhibitors. They showcased their ecosystem partners, which include Summon, Moonstream, Metamask, and HyperPlay. HyperPlay provided attendees with the option to playtest any of the 35 games in their library.
At the event, 3XP featured several web3 games at booths. The games displayed included My Pet Hooligan, Dimensionals, Champions Ascension, Wildcard, Parallel, Aurory, The Machines Arena, MegaWeapon, MetalCore, The Bornless, Last Remains, Deadrop, Skyweaver, The Nemots, Ev.io, Stella Fantasy, Lazy Soccer, Providence, Paradise Tycoon, DeFi Kingdoms, Bloodloop, Pulsar, Raini: Lords of Light, Spider Tanks, and Shrapnel.
Esports Arena and Tournaments
The event also included an Esports Arena, which was sponsored by Brave and managed by Community Gaming. Community Gaming’s esports platform handled the tournament payouts and rewards for exhibitors via its Questing XPeditions portal.
During the event, streamers from 100 Thieves, Team Liquid, and Cloud9 such as Yassuo, Meteos and Mango competed against web3 content creators Brycent, ClassyCrypto, Spike, CryptoStache, XBorg, Yellow Panther, and Alliestrasza in certain web3 titles. The livestream of the arena on Twitch attracted 372,000 unique viewers over the two-day period.
3XP Gaming Expo Looking Forward
Additionally, the event featured a second stage managed by DCENTRAL that included speakers discussing metaverse, fashion, and gaming. This stage was part of DCENTRAL’s GM event, which was rolled into 3XP following the cancellation of E3. It was announced that 3XP plans to incorporate traditional games in 2024 to fill the void left by E3’s indefinite cancellation.
Chris Gonsalves, co-founder of 3XP, said that the development of web3 games represents a shift in power dynamics toward the player. He stated that this shift is evident in the developers creating games that allow players to have digital property rights. He also noted that the 3XP event showcased the increasing maturity of the web3 ecosystem.
