Quick Take
- Flappy Bird Foundation confirms development of Web3 version with player rewards
- A new blockchain IP protocol will tokenize game assets and character rights
- No native FLAP token announced, despite prior Telegram mining activity
The Flappy Bird Foundation, a non-profit organization built by fans, has confirmed the development of a new blockchain-integrated game. In a roadmap posted June 4, the organization detailed plans for a Web3 version of the mobile title, including competitive gameplay, reward mechanics, and onchain asset ownership. The announcement follows the earlier shutdown of a Telegram-based mining game tied to the TON blockchain.
The Foundation stated that the upcoming Web3 title will feature player rewards but has not announced a token or released details about monetization. Prior Telegram activity had prompted speculation about a native FLAP token, though no airdrop or launch followed. The existing Android version of Flappy Bird on the Epic Games Store will remain Web2-only and monetized through ads and in-app purchases.
The roadmap includes the launch of a proprietary IP protocol designed to tokenize Flappy Bird’s characters and visual assets. The blockchain network and token standards for this system have not been disclosed. According to the Foundation, this infrastructure will enable licensed and verifiable usage of digital Flappy Bird elements and support community-driven contributions.
No partner blockchains have been officially named. However, Base, the Ethereum Layer-2 network developed by Coinbase, reposted a section of the roadmap highlighting the protocol’s onchain ambitions. The post was subsequently shared by the Flappy Bird team on Telegram, prompting speculation about future collaboration.
The current plans separate Web2 and Web3 audiences. Flappy Bird Publishing will continue releasing traditional mobile games under license, while the Foundation will develop blockchain-native features in parallel. The Foundation also confirmed plans for future merchandise and licensing deals tied to the Flappy Bird IP.
Original creator Dong Nguyen has previously criticized the use of crypto with the brand. The Foundation did not address Nguyen’s remarks but reiterated that all Web3 activity is opt-in and that its goal is to build a broader Flappy universe using both traditional and decentralized formats.
A release timeline for the Web3 version has not been announced.
