Quick Take
- Squid Grounds map arrives in Reload mode as Fortnite’s first full collaborative battle royale island
- Cosmetic lineup includes guards, contestants, and the Red Light Green Light doll
- Crossover aligns with Squid Game Season 3 premiere on Netflix
Fortnite and Netflix are launching a crossover event that introduces a custom map and themed cosmetics inspired by the series Squid Game. The update goes live on June 27 and will be part of Fortnite’s Reload mode, a smaller-scale battle royale format featuring respawns.
The Squid Grounds map has been developed specifically for Reload and is based on locations and aesthetics from Squid Game. This release marks the first time Fortnite has introduced a fully themed collaborative map in a core PvP mode. The layout has not been detailed publicly, but internal leaks have revealed a new minimap built around a separate structure from existing battle royale islands. The map is designed to integrate with Reload’s pacing and respawn systems.
Epic Games has not confirmed whether custom mechanics or survival-style challenges from Squid Game will appear during matches. Previous collaborations have included custom rule sets and unique limited-time objectives, but nothing has been formally announced for this map as of June 24.
Alongside the new island, Fortnite’s item shop will offer a full set of Squid Game cosmetics. Ten characters wearing the green numbered track suits will be available, split evenly across male and female Fortnite default models. Players will be able to choose which number appears on their outfit. The item shop will also feature red and black guard outfits with customizable mask symbols. A third skin modeled after the animatronic doll from the Red Light Green Light scene is also included.
None of the central Squid Game characters have been confirmed as playable skins. Pricing has not been detailed. Based on past collaborations, these items will appear as part of bundles and individual options in the shop.
The crossover goes live on the same day that Squid Game Season 3 premieres on Netflix. No limited-time event or progression challenges have been announced, though Fortnite has used similar releases to introduce unlockable content and bonus XP missions.
Squid Grounds will be added to the list of playable maps in Reload mode, which was introduced earlier in 2025 as a smaller, fast-paced alternative to the main battle royale. Fortnite players will need to update their game to access the new content. Additional details are expected through Fortnite’s official channels before launch.
