Quick Take
- Gotchi Guardians now listed on Steam with a planned Q3 2025 release window
- Game integrates $GHST payments and Aavegotchi NFT skins on Base blockchain
- Features include multiplayer tower defense, seasonal rewards, and community clip contests
After more than two years in development, Gotchi Guardians is now live on Steam. The game comes from Pixelcraft Studios, creators of Aavegotchi, and expands on that universe with a standalone tower defense game featuring Web3 integrations. Players can wishlist the game ahead of its full launch planned for Q3 2025.
Gotchi Guardians is an 8-player multiplayer roguelite where players defend against waves of enemies called Licks. Each round introduces randomized events and environmental hazards, with players earning experience, unlocking towers, and competing to be the last Guardian standing. The game includes cross-platform multiplayer, seasonal leaderboards, and a progression system tied to character-specific XP.
Six Guardians are available at launch. Each one brings a different playstyle. Some generate gold from damage taken, others buff towers or reflect attacks. Matches include boss waves every five rounds and a shared event system where players vote on changes that affect everyone, like enemy buffs or tower unlocks.
Steam’s listing describes the game as a strategy brawler with randomized elements and destructible arenas. Maps like Mount Oomf and Rickety River include hazards such as lava flows and moving crab towers. Players compete not only with the AI but with each other through sabotage mechanics and shared map events.
The game also supports cosmetics in the form of Aavegotchi skins. These visual overlays are available to holders of Aavegotchi NFTs and can be equipped in-game. While skins do not affect gameplay, they allow players to bring their Gotchis into matches for customization and social visibility.
On the blockchain side, Gotchi Guardians uses $GHST for in-game purchases through the Base network. Players can buy G-Bucks with $GHST or credit cards via payment partner Xsolla. The game also includes a clip rewards system where players can earn up to 1,000 GHST for submitting gameplay videos that meet engagement criteria.
The game has already been playable in browser form since early 2025, with updates adding spectator mode, balance changes, and additional features ahead of the Steam launch. Development is being led by Jason Slama, a veteran designer from GWENT and The Witcher series.
Pixelcraft says Gotchi Guardians is just the beginning, with more maps, events, Guardians, and items already in development.
