Pirate Nation, a fully onchain free-to-play RPG developed by Proof of Play, has introduced play-to-earn mechanics where players can now earn $PIRATE tokens by progressing through the game’s Command Ranks. This marks a significant step in Pirate Nation’s goal to create an immersive onchain gaming experience, rewarding both new and veteran players in different ways.
Earning $PIRATE Tokens Through Command Ranks
The latest update allows new players to start earning $PIRATE tokens as they advance in Command Rank. Players can gain Command Rank XP by winning battles in normal and hard mode Gauntlets. As they accumulate XP and rank up, they unlock new in-game rewards, capped at Command Rank 5.
Progression is key not only for earning $PIRATE tokens but also for unlocking the ability to trade in-game items. At Command Rank 10, players gain access to the in-game marketplace, where they can trade earned items with others.
Veteran players who have already surpassed Command Rank 5 won’t be eligible for these early $PIRATE token rewards. However, the team has hinted at future earning opportunities, along with double social points as a reward for inviting friends to join Pirate Nation.
According to the team, more ways for experienced players to earn $PIRATE tokens will be introduced in upcoming updates.
What is Pirate Nation?
Pirate Nation is a free-to-play, fully onchain RPG, where players build their crews, construct and upgrade ships, explore the Infinite Isles, battle creatures, and hunt for treasure. The game operates on a procedurally generated world, where players embark on quests, collect resources, and engage in strategic combat.
The core gameplay revolves around spending energy to send pirates on missions, earning XP, and unlocking combat cards that enhance their abilities. As pirates level up, they gain access to higher-tier bounties, offering more valuable rewards.
One of Pirate Nation’s key features is its onchain marketplace. Once a player reaches Command Rank 10, their account is fully unlocked for trading in-game assets, allowing them to sell or exchange items they’ve earned through quests and battles.
Currently, Pirate Nation is available on desktop browsers, with plans for a mobile launch on iOS and Android in the future.
Who’s Behind Pirate Nation?
Pirate Nation is developed by Proof of Play, an onchain game studio founded by Amitt Mahajan, who co-created FarmVille, a game that once had 100 million monthly players.
Mahajan previously founded and sold companies to Zynga and Google, created an NFT marketplace called Rare Bits in 2018, and contributed to the ERC-1155 multi-token standard.
The Pirate Nation development team includes key members from Epic Games, Zynga, EA, Activision, and Riot Games, with backing from a16z, Greenoaks, and leadership figures from Twitch, Coinbase, Anchorage Digital, Mercury, Firebase, and Alchemy.
Pirate Nation Joins Ronin Network
As part of its expansion, Pirate Nation has announced its integration with the Ronin Network, which recently opened its chain to third-party games and platforms, including the Forkast prediction market among other high-profile games.
To commemorate the partnership, Pirate Nation will launch an exclusive Ronin-themed mint, offering players unique in-game content to celebrate the alliance.
What’s Next for Pirate Nation?
With the introduction of $PIRATE token rewards, new progression mechanics, and Ronin Network integration, Pirate Nation continues to evolve as a leading onchain RPG. Future updates will focus on new earning opportunities for veteran players, deeper gameplay mechanics, and expanding the trading ecosystem within the game.
As Pirate Nation sets sail into this next phase, its safe to say can expect more updates, events, and evolving ways to engage in its economy.
