Final Fantasy Maker, Square Enix has released an organization plan that features a transformative integration focusing on artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain, Web3, and cloud technologies. These interests were highlighted in a New Year’s letter released by Takashi Kiriyu, the current CEO of Square Enix. The New Year letter has become a long-standing culture of Square Enix. Last year, Yosuke Matsuda, the ex-CEO of Square Enix discussed innovative technologies involving blockchain, metaverse, and NFTs.
The New Year letter released expressed Square Enix’s aggressive commitment to AI and other advanced technologies. While strengthening his belief in generative AI technologies, Kiriyu cited ChatGPT as a very good example of AIs that have shut the academic debates.
However, Kiriyu did not explicitly discuss Square Enix’s ambition regarding the integrations of blockchain and web3 technologies. Meanwhile, Final Fantasy, one of the company’s iconic franchises has confirmed Square Enix’s interest in these sectors after its investment in the launch of Symbiogenesis, an NFT-based project in December 2023.
Nevertheless, Kiriyu says Square Enix values diversification and is fully committed to its newly exposed business domains like blockchain entertainment/Web3, AI, and the cloud. This strategic initiative for 2024 has been labeled “Grand Design” which will be unveiled at an upcoming event.
