The new version lets players experience fleet management, faction combat, and resource delivery without connecting a wallet or making upfront purchases. It also serves as a testbed for upcoming systems being developed for the blockchain-based version.
Holosim replicates the gameplay loop of SAGE Labs within a Web2 wrapper. Players choose between three factions and carry out contract-based missions across a persistent map. The game uses time-limited scenarios to simulate high-stakes objectives, like resource runs and combat, within a confined window.
The current version of Holosim includes several features still in development for SAGE Labs. These include a full ship combat update with permanent fleet losses, a personal AI assistant for onboarding, an early version of the questing system, and a Route Manager to automate fleet logistics.
It runs on Atlasnet, Star Atlas’ proprietary blockchain infrastructure. While Holosim is free and permissionless, it still uses on-chain logic for gameplay, enabling fast, gasless interactions for all players. This model is aimed at onboarding new players by removing traditional Web3 friction points.
Holosim’s first seasonal scenario centers on Infrastructure Contracts. These require factions to gather specific resources and deliver them to starbases across the Galia Expanse. The first faction to complete all contract deliveries wins. Future seasons will include more career paths like Soldier, Miner, Merchant, and Data Runner, with each loop contributing to larger faction goals.
The launch of Holosim coincides with the rollout of C4, the latest update to SAGE. C4 expands the game’s structure into a full 4X model, adding Claim Stakes, crafting habitats, atomic combat, and skill-tree progression through Council Rank. Many of these systems are expected to filter into Holosim as the test cycle continues.
