Quick Take
- 150M $LEAF tokens allocated to testers, NFT holders, and contributors
- Gameplay patch adds new maps, pets, and loot mechanics
- Leaf Hunt event tracks community activity for end-of-season rewards
The Backwoods, a Solana-based roguelite developed by Seed Labs, has initiated $LEAF Season, an airdrop-driven campaign featuring gameplay updates, token distribution, and an incentivized leaderboard event. The rollout began on June 24 and will continue through July.
A total of 150 million $LEAF tokens have been allocated across multiple community segments. Early adopters, closed alpha testers, Hero NFT holders, and partner project communities are all included in the airdrop distribution. Leaf Hunt, an interactive web layer attached to the campaign, provides additional earning opportunities through content sharing, game engagement, and referral actions. Crystals earned within the Leaf Hunt system contribute toward claimable $LEAF at the end of the season.
In-game, several key features were added alongside the token event. Boss enemies now drop loot chests automatically, removing key requirements. A new pet system introduces collectible eggs that hatch into companions offering passive stat bonuses. Additional sub-map areas expand available routes, and the Season Pass has been updated with fresh progression rewards. Performance optimizations and bug fixes were also included in the patch.
Gameplay in The Backwoods revolves around wave-based survival runs, where players control NFT-linked or free-to-play heroes with race-specific traits. Combat earns coins that are used to purchase gear between waves, while surviving longer yields stronger loot and higher leaderboard scores. Each run consumes 5 VIT, a stamina unit that resets daily.
The game’s economy operates on two tokens, $LEAF and $SEED. Both are earned through gameplay, with $LEAF currently the focus due to its seasonal campaign. Hero NFTs, which are not mandatory, provide bonus multipliers in both combat and staking mechanics. Each NFT belongs to one of nine races and features traits that impact both survivability and progression strategy.
Hero NFTs were trading at approximately 0.535 SOL, or $76.97, at the time of reporting. Staking these assets unlocks access to additional $LEAF rewards and expands functionality within the game’s referral systems.
All event-related activity, including claim tracking and Leaf Hunt participation, is centralized on app.backwoods.gg, where wallets can connect and monitor progress throughout the season.
