The brains behind Bored Ape Yacht Club, Yuga Labs, has officially announced the return of its NFT-gated endless runner game, Dookey Dash. The game has been rebranded as “Unclogged,” and Yuga Labs has partnered with the game studio Faraway, known for transforming the game into a free-to-play edition.
Before the relaunch, players needed a Sewer Pass NFT on Ethereum to access the Dookey Dash gameplay, exclusively available to Bored Ape and Mutant Ape NFT owners. However, the upcoming Clogged edition will eliminate this barrier, enabling players to navigate the 3D sewer tunnel, symbolized as an ape riding an underwater vehicle.
Yuga Labs Gaming announced on the X (formerly Twitter) handle: “Dookey Dash Unclogged, coming Q1 2024. This time anyone can play.”
Dookey Dash gained attention when pro Fortnite player “Mongraal” clinched victory and sold his NFT key for $1.63 million to billionaire Adam Weitsman. Although the new version is accessible to all players, Yuga Labs promises to reward Ethereum NFT holders with token benefits, possibly ApeCoin.
The game plans to launch across various devices, including iOS, Android, Mac desktop, and Windows desktop. Yuga Labs believes diversification will enhance the game’s performance and security for players.
According to The Fortnite Guy, a popular Bored Ape and gaming influencer, Dookey Dash: Unclogged is set to launch by mid-February. He added that selected Yuga NFT holders might receive additional NFTs through the game. In a playtest video, the gamer showcased new playable characters, vehicles, and in-game currencies.
