Axie Infinity: Origins, a card-based strategy game, is now available for download on the iOS platform in select Latin American and Asian countries. This marks a significant step towards universal access to Axie Infinity on all preferred devices. As of now, the game can be downloaded in Argentina, Colombia, Peru, Mexico, Venezuela, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Vietnam.
The Journey from Android to iOS
Developed by Sky Mavis, Origins presents a unique gaming environment where players can collect, own, and battle with a wide variety of creatures known as axies. The game was initially launched as a feature-limited version on the Malaysian Google PlayStore in December 2022, allowing developers to test and improve gameplay before expanding to other countries.
The iOS release holds particular significance as it features one of the first known instances of Apple permitting an externally-purchased NFT to be used on the App Store. This development is expected to set a precedent for other NFT-based applications in the future.
Gameplay and Crafting on iOS
In this initial iOS release, only Moonshard crafting recipes will be available in-app. To use SLP crafting recipes, players will need to rely on desktop or Android APK versions of the game. The mobile version is designed to allow players to enjoy Axie Infinity: Origins on the go, while still having the option to engage with more complex elements on their desktops or Android devices.
The early version also enables players to use upgradeable starter axies in both Adventure and Arena Mode. By promoting axies and enhancing their cards using Class Badges and Honor Medals earned through gameplay, new users will be introduced to the Axie universe.
Community Engagement and the Creator Program
In line with the game’s expansion, the Axie Creator Program is leading a social content and App Store review contest to celebrate this milestone. As the developers report, around 70% of Axie community members learn about the game from friends or family, indicating the significance of these community-driven efforts in the game’s growth.
