Thursday, 29 October – Pixels announced the release of Chapter 3, which includes new social, competitive, and reward-driven gameplay systems designed to foster deeper community interaction and rivalry.
With over 1 million daily active players, Pixels is a casual web3 game that offers an open-ended world of farming and exploration, often compared to Stardew Valley. Pixels is on a mission to create the largest gaming company in the world, and using Web3 to do it.
With Chapter 3, Pixels deepens its community focus by introducing new ways for players to collaborate, compete, and influence the in-game economy, all while preserving existing player progress and investments. The update expands current systems to create richer resource loops, more coordinated gameplay, and meaningful opportunities for strategic rivalry.

For the first time, players can join a Union, participate in competitive gameplay, and shape outcomes through Union-specific mechanics:
- Unions: Join Wildgroves, Seedwrights, or Reapers – each is guided by a unique philosophy and carrying their own Yieldstone (Verdant, Flint, or Hollow).
- Yieldstones: Earn Flint, Verdant, or Hollow Yieldstones from the taskboard or by crafting on NFT land; deposit them to strengthen your Union’s Hearth or sabotage rivals. (Yieldstones: five tiers, not tradable.)
- Sabotage & Defence: Place rival Union Yieldstones in opposing Hearths to damage their health. Defend your Hearth using Power or Defence Offerings from the Chamber Shop.
- Seasonal Competition: The season ends when a Union’s Hearth Health reaches 100%. Rewards (up to 50,000 $PIXEL) are distributed by Union rank and player participation.
- Hearth Hall & Switching: Visit Hearth Hall to learn about and join Unions, manage your Hearth, and switch allegiance (free once; subsequent changes require a cooldown and 50 $PIXEL).
“In the early days of Pixels, our strength was pure brute force. We shipped fast, without overthinking polish, and it worked. As our user base grew, we slowed down to perfect systems first, and honestly, that was a mistake. About six months ago, we decided to return to our roots with rapid updates, experimentation, and fast iteration. It’s been far more effective, and we’re seeing real momentum again. For this next stage, our focus is on building strong systems and sustainable economics first. That’s where the real experimentation needs to happen, and it’s exactly what we’re doing with Chapter 3,” said Luke Barwikowski, Pixels founder and CEO.
“When we analyzed our data after Chapter 2, it was clear we needed big changes. A tiny fraction of players were driving nearly all the spend, and that imbalance wasn’t sustainable. So we made tough calls. We reworked the economy, reduced DAU intentionally, and focused on building a model that actually works. Over the past year, we’ve been refining everything around one core metric, return on reward spend, and for the first time, we’re seeing it above one. Our goal with Chapter 3 is to keep Pixels sustainable over time.”
