Strategic Gameplay Elements: Avatars, Apostles, Battle Teams, and Decks
Apeiron’s real-time card-battling system blends traditional card game mechanics with real-time strategy, offering a unique and challenging gaming experience. This section provides in-depth information on crucial elements of this system: Avatars, Apostles, the Battle Team, and the Battle Deck.
- Avatar: The Avatar is the primary unit in Apeiron’s battles, directly controlled by the player. The Avatar’s survival is paramount to the battle outcome as the Avatar’s defeat results in losing the battle. Players need to maneuver the Avatar tactically around the battlefield, utilizing skill cards effectively to achieve victory.
- Apostles: Apostles are units that assist the Avatar during combat. They are semi-controllable; they move and auto-attack on their own accord but will respond to the player’s commands when skills are used. Each Apostle comes with unique characteristics such as different stats, classes, weapons, special body parts, and skills. These varying traits offer a plethora of strategic combinations for players to explore and utilize in battles.
- Battle Team: The Battle Team comprises the Avatar and up to four Apostles. This team structure encourages players to consider strategic combinations of Apostles that complement the Avatar’s abilities and enhance the team’s overall combat effectiveness.
- Battle Deck: The Battle Deck consists of skill cards contributed by both the Avatar and the Apostles. Each unit provides three skill cards, summing up to a full deck of 15 cards. The Avatar and each Apostle contribute 3 skill cards each, making a total of 15 cards in the Battle Deck. The composition of the deck significantly influences the player’s strategic options during battle. These skill cards range from activatable abilities to passive buffs, providing a broad spectrum of tactical options for players.
Dungeon Mechanics
Apeiron’s procedurally generated dungeons offer a diverse array of room types, guaranteeing unique gaming experiences. Battle rooms serve as the primary battlegrounds where players face enemies and acquire valuable loot such as experience, Soul Gems, Apostles, and Artifacts. For those seeking greater challenges, Elite Battles provide heightened risks and rewards.
Beyond combat, players encounter non-combat rooms like Campfires, serving as vital resting points for health recovery, Apostle training, and revival. The inclusion of Shops allows players to spend Soul Gems on essential potions and charms, enhancing their strategic prowess. Engaging event rooms present players with non-combat scenarios that test both their wits and moral decision-making skills.
Ultimately, each dungeon culminates in an intense boss encounter, demanding solo combat expertise and the utilization of all available resources to emerge victorious.
Character Classes and Skill Trees
In Apeiron, players have the freedom to choose one of three Avatar classes: Wisdom, Fate, and Fury. Each of these classes has unique characteristics and abilities that differentiate them in battle:
- Wisdom: The Wisdom class is the celestial embodiment of a glass cannon, though squishy when it comes to taking damage, it makes up for it by dishing out multiple spells that can level a wave of boods in a single flick of his staff.
- Fate: Fate serves as a commander on the battlefield, supplying valuable buffs and having the unique ability to summon allies to fight. The Fate class excels at agilely supporting Apostles and creating attack opportunities from a safe distance. Their strategic role in manipulating battlefield dynamics contributes to the team’s increased strength and survivability.
- Fury: The Fury class allows you to jump into battle and eliminate boods with brutal finesse. High HP and RES gives them the survivability they need to single out targets and take them out. And when a fellow dood is in need fury can hop in and prevent damage from coming in, dishing it back out 10 fold.
As players gain experience and level up their Avatar, they acquire skill points. These can be invested in a broad range of abilities and buffs to enhance their Avatar’s performance in battle. These enhancements can be active abilities, which need to be manually triggered during combat, or passive buffs, which provide a constant boost to the Avatar.
Apeiron’s God Game Simulation
Though the God-Game simulation aspects are still in development, once available, players take the role of godlings, capable of inhabiting planets they own through Spirit Cores and mysterious structures called EDENs. Each planet offers a unique set of skill cards, environmental challenges, and an elemental Avatar class. Free “seed planets” are available for beginners to sample gameplay.
Using EDEN, players can perform miracles which are elemental abilities allowing players to manipulate their world and the Doods, the planet’s inhabitants. The use and combination of miracles result in new environmental features and interactions, influencing gameplay. Actions in response to Doods’ prayers determine a player’s Alignment, either good or evil, affecting the appearance of their world, the quests available, and special skills.
Upon reaching a growth plateau, players can trigger an Armageddon to reset their planet, earning Soul Gems to upgrade their Spirit Cores, and Anima, the game’s play-to-earn token. Each reset generates new continents for fresh and exciting gameplay.
