Line Next, a South-Korean mobile messaging firm subsidiary, has signed a partnership deal with Sega (Service Games), a video-game-making company. The partnership seeks to permit Line Next to develop a new web3 game by using Sega’s popular game IPs. Meanwhile, Line Next has been dedicated to developing and expanding the non-fungible token (NFT) ecosystem since its launch in 2022.
Line Next and Sega
The new game will be launched on the Game Dosi platform and support NFT production, digital payments, and marketing activities in line with Line Next’s plan to popularize web3 gaming. Line Next plans to keep the game’s title under wraps until further notice.
A few days before the Line Next partnership deal, Sega announced it would refrain from developing its games into the web3 ecosystem and rely on third-party companies instead.
Speaking on the partnership, Shuji Utsumi, Sega’s co-chief operating officer, said: “For the majority of people in the video game industry, what blockchain advocates say may sound a bit extreme, but that’s how the first penguin has always been. We should never underestimate them.”
Youngsu Ko, Line Next’s CEO commented on the partnership: “Line Next is pleased to be teaming up with Sega to bring some exciting gaming to the Web3 space for gamers around the world. Through this partnership, Game Dosi will provide Web3 content that anyone can easily enjoy, including Sega fans.”
