Sparkball is officially joining the Somnia ecosystem, marking a new chapter for the 4v4 arena sports brawler that blends fast-paced action with community-focused design. Developed by Opti Games, a studio led by former Riot Games and Blizzard Entertainment veterans, Sparkball has drawn attention for its hybrid gameplay that balances traditional multiplayer combat with accessible sports mechanics.
Now integrated with Somnia’s onchain infrastructure, the game’s next phase includes new reward campaigns, game nights, and broader visibility heading into Steam Next Fest. The partnership aims to strengthen Sparkball’s position as a browser-native, PC-friendly game while tapping into Somnia’s suite of gaming developer tools.

The news was first shared by both the game and Somnia on social media, along with the announcement that Sparkball will take part in Somnia’s growing Dream Catalyst initiative. This program includes games like Maelstrom and Mask of the Void and leverages blockchain infrastructure to support features like player-recorded battle data, community quests, and dynamic reward campaigns.
Somnia has been building toward a more persistent gaming ecosystem through tools like Gamers L.A.B., which logs match data to the blockchain and enables games to launch quests, leaderboards, and bounty systems without major client updates. These systems are opt-in for developers, but allow for deeper integration with player identity, inventory, and achievements across titles.
Sparkball joins the initiative as one of the highest-profile games in the lineup so far. It runs on PC and uses a colorful, arcade-style presentation where players compete in short, goal-oriented matches that also include combat and skill-based team coordination. Each match sees two teams of four compete using heroes with unique abilities, objectives, and roles. Described by the developers as “League of Legends meets Rocket League,” the game emphasizes both tactical execution and accessible fun.

The title previously built early community momentum through Discord activations and public test events, amassing over 50,000 sign-ups and establishing a grassroots fanbase before launch. The game will be showcased next during Steam Next Fest, from June 9 to 16, where it will be playable for free through a public demo.
Sparkball’s onboarding to Somnia follows the studio’s decision to move away from Monad as a primary blockchain partner. In a public statement, founder Chandler Thomlison said the transition reflects an evolving vision for Sparkadia, the broader IP and ecosystem that Sparkball anchors. The change does not impact past support from Monad, which Thomlison said will still be acknowledged through in-game assets.
